1. Galleria dell’Accademia

The museum Galleria dell'Accademia collects Venetian artwork from the 13th to 18th centuries. You can see works by Titian, Giorgione, Canaletto and Tiepolo, among others. The museum consists of several buildings that have been put together, like the former church of Santa Maria della Carità, the associated monastery and the Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Carità.

3. Santa Maria della Salute

Close to the Punto della Dogana museum and the Guggenheim is the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. This baroque church is octagonal in shape and you will find here 12 works by Titian. As with many Venice sights, the building itself deserves just as much attention as the art it houses. The large dome on top of the central part of the octagon, the many statues that look out over the canal from the outside and the lighting (when it starts to get dark and the sun sets), make it a special church. Entrance to this church is free.

4. Punta della Dogana

At the very tip of Dorsoduro you will find the Punta della Dogana museum. This museum is triangular in shape and it is housed in a building from which customs used to operate. You will find mainly international, modern art and this museum is not comparable to other museums in Venice. The rough structure of the inside of the building brings the art extra to expression. Bare walls, sleek floors and appropriate lighting, there is nothing to distract you from the objects on display. On the official website you can find out which temporary exhibitions are available.

5. Santa Maria del Rosario (Gesuati)

Walk from Punta della Dogana via the wharf ('Zaterre') to the 18th-century Dominican church of Santa Maria del Rosario, also known as 'I Gesuati'. Along the way, enjoy views of the opposite island of Giudecca. The Santa Maria del Rosario is built in Rococo style and has beautiful, colorful frescoes on the ceiling by the Venetian Giambattista Tiepolo.

6. Squero di San Trovaso

To see where the story of the gondola starts, visit the Squero di San Trovaso on the south side of the Dorsoduro district. This has been the place where gondolas were built and maintained since the 17th century. Here you can clearly see where the gondolas are launched or taken out of the water for periodic maintenance. Sometimes you won't find any gondolas outside, other times it's full. The appearance of the building of the old, traditional workshop shows how much experience they have for centuries with their favorite mode of transport in Venice.

7. Church 'San Sebastiano'

The Chiesa di San Sebastiano is a 16th-century church and houses a series of frescoes by the artist Paolo Veronese, as well as paintings by Tintoretto and Titian. A beautiful church to take a quick look inside

A beautiful building to take a look inside (entrance 7 euros).

9. Campo Santa Margherita

Campo Santa Margherita is located near the Rio de Santa Margherita. It is the heart of the student district Dorsoduro and an attractive square with a well and a few large trees in the middle. You cannot see it from the floor, but here 40 different oil cloths have been combined into one large magnificent whole.
